JACOBABAD, Feb 19: Nine students received injuries when roof of a classroom of a school caved in here on Monday.

The incident occurred while teaching process was going on in Hameedia High School. As a result, three students -- Ghulam Murtaza Solangi, Mazhar Ali Bhatti and Shahid Ali Dayo -- received serious injuries while six others -- Mohammad Sadiq Sooro, Ishat Ali Shah, Siraj Mohammad Dhool, Ghulam Dastagir Golo, Yasir Ali Abro and Mohammad Hassan Soomro -- suffered minor injuries.

They were admitted to the Civil Hospital Jacobabad. The condition of Ghulam Murtaza is said to be precarious.

Later, the students of the school took out a protest procession and raised slogans against the EDO (education) and the district officer (works).

When contacted, Assistant Headmaster Mohammad Ayaz Lohar alleged that substandard material had been used in the construction of the school building due to which the roof of a classroom caved in.

He said that the school building was constructed 10 year ago and its renovation took place a year ago.

No senior official of the education department at district level visited the school after the incident.
