Paddy processing suspended

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Feb 19: The processing of paddy has been suspended once again due to wet weather which panicked rice dealers.

Rice dealers and commission agents of grain markets said on Monday that they had stored their entire paddy in open field after buying it from market and farmers for processing.

More than 50 per cent paddy was still lying in the open which would be damaged if soaked by rainwater, they added.

They said thousands of sacks of paddy were lying in the open in Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin for the last several months.

Moreover, the situation has caused a price spiral in the local market. The exporters were also facing problems for meeting orders.

Bailiff: A bailiff appointed by the Lahore High Court raided Qila Dedar Singh CIA office on Monday and recovered a youth who was confined there illegally.

The court appointed bailiff on the complaint of Afzal’s mother.

She submitted that her son was taken into custody without any reason and was being kept in confinement without registration of a case.

The court has summoned the CIA staff in charge on next hearing.
