Bid to attack PML meeting foiled

QUETTA, Feb 18: Law-enforcement agencies foiled on Sunday an attempt by militants to attack a PML workers’ convention in Nushki which was being presided over by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Yousuf.

According to police sources, some people had planted a 107mm rocket with timer in the area where the convention was in progress.

Chief Minister Jam Yousuf, some ministers of his cabinet, provincial president of the PML women’s wing Senator Begum Rehana Yahya Baloch, General Secretary Mrs Robina Irfan and other PML leaders were present at the convention.

On receiving information about the explosive device, law-enforcement agencies rushed to the place and defused it timely.

"The target of the rocket was the PML convention," police sources said.

LANDMINE BLAST: Three Frontier Corps troops were critically injured in a blast after their vehicle hit a landmine in a village near Dera Bugti on Sunday.

Security officials said that the landmine exploded as the vehicle was on its way to Doi Wadh area in Dera Bugti.

The vehicle was badly damaged as a result of the explosion. The injured were immediately taken to a hospital in Sui.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Frontier Corps raided a place near the Dasht-i-Goran area in Dera Bugti district and seized a huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition.
