Sir Jee claim honours with facile win
KARACHI, Feb 18: Odds on favourite three-year-old bay colt Sir Jee obliged punters by posting a facile three lengths victory over Can’t Catch Me to claim days’ honours in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Toppled by filly Black Girl in the last outing he justified the prediction by making amends in a field of 14 runners.
Finishing four lengths away was Birj-ul-Arab while Trust Again completed the frame.
Owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and saddled by Allah Judrio, he was galloped to victory by rider Fahim K.
It was yet another successful day for owner Pir Pagara as the triumph – second of the day – enabled him to complete a fine double. Earlier, public fancy three-year-old bay filly Sweetie Pie with Zaki Zakir astride did him proud outpacing mare Meri Paidagiree by five lengths to register maiden victory.
Favourite four-year-old bay filly Sweet Smile also justified her top billing when she stormed to two lengths victory over another filly Black Girl to land the feature event. It was the shortest field as only five horses battled it out for the glory in the six furlongs race.
She was piloted home by Fahim K who finished heads and shoulders above among riders with a splendid treble. In addition to back-to-back win of Sir Jee and Sweet Smile his third winner was favourite colt Shah Pasand in the fourth race.
Five-year-old Jawan Bakht was another notable horse who, as predicted, emerged victorious outpacing Kat Mandu by five lengths. The field was reduced to 15 after the withdrawl of Sing Sing and Vice admiral.
Earlier, 10-year-old Desperado beat joint favourite colt Hamza Joy by five-and-a-half lengths to pick up spoils in the opener while mare Taneez made it two-in-a-row with an upset one-and-a-half lengths win over fancied Al Jarrar in the next race.
