GUJRANWALA, Feb 18: The district organization of the ruling PML has elected vice-presidents and additional joint secretaries more than twice in numbers only to appease the workers.
It was learnt on Sunday that the district organisation was allowed to induct one president, two senior vice-presidents, a dozen vice-presidents and four additional joint secretaries besides one each secretary-general, finance secretary and information secretary. On the contrary, the district organisation reportedly elected five senior vice-presidents, 28 vice-presidents and 15 additional joint secretaries during the election.
Former MPA and veteran party leader Chaudhry Zaferullah Cheema has been elected as district president. His two sons — Dr Sohail Cheema and Rizwan Cheema — are enjoying the status of provincial minister in the Punjab cabinet and Nandipur Town nazim, respectively.
While advocate Chaudhry Ahmed Nadeem Goraya has been elected as secretary-general, Mian Umer Bashir as additional secretary-general, Malik Shaukat Ali Awan as office secretary, Muhammad Saleem Kamboh as finance secretary and Muhammad Nadeem Ashraf Khokhar as information secretary.
PROTEST: College students and the people requiring domicile certificates for getting higher education or seeking government jobs have called upon the authorities concerned to simplify the process of acquiring the certificates.
At a meeting held here on Sunday, the participants said that the bureaucracy had imposed a condition to verify a domicile from a patwari, a tehsildar, a nazim and a councillor of the union council concerned before submitting it to the district administration, which was unjustified.
They said that people, particularly girls, had to face a great deal of inconvenience in finding the revenue staff as they were seldom available in their offices.
