Cattle theft bid leads to 3 deaths

KHAIRPUR, Feb 18: A villager was shot dead by armed thieves and two thieves were gunned down by relatives of the villager in Sachal village in the jurisdiction of the B-Section police late Saturday night.

Ten armed thieves barged into the house of Khawand Rind and tried to take away five buffaloes and other cattle. The inmates offered resistance on which the thieves opened fire. As a result, Khawand Rind, 38, was killed on the spot.

After hearing the sound of firing, his relatives came out of their houses and an exchange of fire took place between them and the thieves.

Two thieves were killed at some distance from the village when they were trying to escape.

Two relatives of the deceased namely Ali Nawaz and Mohammad Muqeem were injured in the clash. They were taken to Khairpur Civil Hospital where Muqeem was admitted. Ali Nawaz was referred to the Karachi Civil Hospital.

The body of Khawand Rind was handed over to relatives after post mortem.

The killed thieves were identified as Mohammad Siddiq Jagirani, resident of Ghaffar Shah village, and Mohammad Ismail Mangnejo. The body of Siddiq was handed over to his sister and the body of Ismail to his mother on Sunday.

In Raban Khandhro village on Wednesday, another villager, Gulzar Kandhro, was killed by armed thieves who were trying to take away his buffaloes.
