KARACHI, Feb 18: Fishermen belonging to Gabopat village staged a rally in front of the office of Keamari Town administration against non-availability of drinking water in their village.
Led by leaders of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum, they first converged on the office of the concerned UC and then marched up to the town administration office.
A large number of women was also among the participants of the rally. They raised slogans against the government’s indifferent attitude, and demanded adequate supply of potable water to their area immediately.
Upon reaching the town administration’s office, the protesters staged a sit-in and blocked the nearby road for some time. Speaking at the rally, PFF leader Saeed Baloch said that the government was paying no attention to the villagers’ problems, and warned the city government, water board and TMA of staging a sit-in outside the KWSB office if drinking water was not supplied to the villagers as soon as possible.
Later, the PFF released a press release stating that that the KWB authorities had called a meeting of all concerned officials at the town office on Feb 20 to discuss the issue and sort out the problems.
