Samples taken for dope tests

KARACHI, Feb 17: A representative of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday here took the urine samples of four national players selected for the forthcoming World Cup, for dope tests.

Dr Sohail Saleem flew into the city from Lahore and took the urine samples of Mohammad Yousuf, Danish Kaneria and Mohammad Sami at a local hotel while he took the sample of Younis Khan at the National Stadium where he was appearing in a TV commercial.

These samples are being sent to the WADA-accredited laboratory in Kuala Lumpur from where the reports (of the dope tests) are expected within the next four days.

The PCB is conducting the dope tests of the 15-member squad and the five reserves picked for the World Cup to avoid any embarrassment of any more positive tests before the global event, after pacers Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar tested positive last year for the banned substance nandrolone.

Meanwhile, urine sample of Shahid Afridi for dope test will be taken on his return from London where he has gone on a private visit. —APP
