KARACHI, Feb 17: Three-year-old bay colt Sir Jee who was outpaced by four-year-old filly Black Girl in his last outing has been rated high to make amends when the Gymkhana race meeting resumes at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Overcoming a layoff, Black Girl created quite a stir when she stormed to three-quarter-of-a-length victory over fancied Sir Jee on Feb 11.
There are four form horses in the pack of 14 aspirants for the honours barring last minute withdrawl in the five furlongs supporting event. They are Sir Jee and his stable-mate Patricia, Can’t Catch Me and Birj-ul-Arab.
Either of the first two looks certain to pick up spoils and oblige punters.
A card of seven races has been worked out for the day. The first race begins at 1.30pm.
Similarly, there’s a two-way tie in the six furlongs concluding race which is also the feature event. The horses in the run for glory are fillies Sweet Smile and Black Girl. The latter has earned promotion to higher class after her last triumph.
We prefer Sweet Smile who is tipped to atone to her last loss at the hands of Awan.
Despite failing to attain success on Wednesday, five-year-old dark bay horse Jawan Bakht should gallop to victory in the five furlongs top division of class VII.
He is likely to be chased by Haseena-e-Arab and Sweet Grandy for the next two places.
Chestnut Champion Express has a good chance to claim a long overdue victory by beating opponents.
However, Thanks Naeem can bring an element of surprise if allowed to run on merit. Shah Pasand and Khas-ul-Khas should battle it out for places.
Mare Queen Of Awan should dominate the third race by overcoming Lucky Boss and Meri Paidagiree. The Choice Of The Day can pull off an upset if let go by connection.
Piyari Mehbooba and Sher-e-Awan enjoys an edge over rivals in the first two races of the day. Mare Silent Love can pose threat to Piyari Mehbooba in the opener.
