KARACHI: Midnight raids slammed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 17: The Markazi Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, condemning the midnight raids at the houses of people who had participated in protest demonstrations against demolition of mosques, has warned the government to refrain from such illegal acts.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, they said that police conducted midnight raids at the houses of the people in PIB Colony who had participated in various demonstrations to protest against demolition of the mosques by the government in the name of constructing Lyari Expressway.

The leaders – Tariq Mehboob, Allama Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Qari Abdul Baqi and others – said that to stage a demonstration was a basic human right and nobody could take away the right to protest against the demolition of mosques.

They demanded that the illegal raids be stopped as the leaders might not be able to control the people whose patience was running out quickly.
