PCB, PSF officials to be grilled

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 16: A joint session of the National Assembly and the Senate Standing Committees on Sports will grill officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) on Feb 23.

It is the first occasion when a joint session of the two houses will be held to question heads of the two national sports authorities.

The joint session has summoned the Chairman PCB Dr Nasim Ashraf and Director Cricket Operations Salim Altaf to enquire why an injury-hit Pakistan squad has been selected for the World Cup.

A member of the National Assembly’s standing committee, on condition of anonymity, told Dawn the legislators would also seek explanation over the delay in the implementation of the PCB constitution.

The member added that Dr Nasim had given the assurance to the members that the new PCB constitution would be implemented by Jan 31, adding however there was no progress in this regard.

According to some reports the new constitution could not get approval of the law ministry, which raised certain objections on some of its clauses.

Similarly, the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) officials would also be grilled over the pathetic performance of national players in international competitions.
