Faizan’s extra-time effort propels St Pat’s to final

KARACHI, Feb 16: Faizan Butt's strike eight minutes into extra-time helped St Patrick's High School reach Karachi United soccer school championship final, edging past The Lyceum School 2-1 in a semi-final which saw two red cards at DHA Stadium on Friday.

Salmanuddin Khan opened the scoring for the winners before Usama Bin Naseem grabbed the leveller in the 29th minute. The two teams remained deadlocked after the stipulated time.

Faizan finally sealed the fate of the match with a goal eight minutes into extra-time.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men when St. Patrick’s Sandeep and Omar Nisar of Lyceum were red-carded in the 69th minute.

In another semi-final, defending champions Karachi Grammar School defeated Army Public School 2-0.

Danesh Gilani's 20th-minute goal was followed by Omar Akhtar's strike eight minutes before the final whistle.
