HYDERABAD, Feb 15: Islamabad defeated Peshawar by 32 runs to capture the inaugural National Schools Under-17 cricket championship for females at the Niaz Stadium on Thursday.
After being put in to bat first, Islamabad girls made 106 all out in 25 overs and then sent Peshawar packing for 74 in 20.3 overs.
For Islamabad, the batswomen to reach double figures in addition to 25 extras were Huma Shafiq (25), Hina Shafiq (10) and Naila Nazir (24). From Peshawar Zamarud Aleem (3-22), Shakila Naz (2-10) bowled well.
Peshawar, in reply, managed to score 74 before being dismissed. Mariam Rahim (16), Shakila Naz (20) and Wajeeha Sundas (14) were the main scorers; 15 extras was the other major contribution in the Peshawar innings. From Islamabad Javeria Munir (4-20), Naila Nazir (3-20) and Huma Shafiq (2-10) remained key bowlers.
Meanwhile, District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil announced Rs25,000 cash prize for the winners and Rs10,000 for the runners-up.
