KARACHI: Saarclaw conference

Karachi, Feb 15: The 12th Saarclaw Conference will be held here from March 23 to 25.

According to a press release issued by Saarclaw President Mehmood Y. Mandviwalla, the theme of the conference will be ‘The Changing Face of Contemporary Laws’. The moot will be the largest gathering of legal experts comprising chief justices, judges, legal practitioners, academics and law students of the seven member states of the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation.

The conference will also be the first to have representation from China and Japan, which are being given observer status by the Saarc, and Afghanistan, which will become the 8th member state. The conference is expected to attract over 300 overseas delegates and at least 500 delegates from within Pakistan.

The release further stated that the 9th Saarc Chief Justices Conference will be hosted by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. It is the first time that chief justices from China, Japan and Afghanistan will be invited to participate in the conference.

Mr Mandviwalla said Saarclaw had always provided a rare opportunity to members of the legal fraternity of the region to interact and share their valuable experiences.—Staff Reporter
