KARACHI, Feb 14: Fine bowling by off-spinner Tahir Khan put Karachi Urban in an impregnable against Faisalabad in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League fixture at the UBL Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

Tahir captured four for 64, medium-pacer Imran Javed three for 40 and slow left-armer Azam Hussain two for 54 as the visitors were all out for 200 to concede a first-innings lead of 154 to Karachi Urban.

Openers Agha Sabir and Asif Zakir safely negotiated three overs as Karachi Urban reached three without loss in the second innings to extend their to 157 on the second day of the four-day tie.

The only batsman to make impression for Faisalabad was their skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. The former Test right-hander remained unbeaten with a gutsy 83.

Misbah, who faced 161 balls and struck nine fours and one six, and Naved Latif, another Test batsman, added 57 for the fifth-wicket in the only noteworthy partnership of Faisalabad’s innings.

Naved’s 68-ball 39 was laced with six fours and on six before he became Tahir’s victim.

Earlier, Karachi Urban’s remaining four wickets fell for the addition of 76 runs after they had resumed at 288 for six.

Karachi Urban just need to draw this match to qualify for the Feb 19-23 final against Sialkot at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Meanwhile, for the second successive day there was no play the match between Peshawar and bottom-placed Lahore Shalimar, who are now confirmed to be demoted to Silver League next season, because of persistent rain in Peshawar.
