Rain-related incidents claim 12 more lives

MARDAN/BARA, Feb 13: At least 12 people were killed and 21 others injured in different incidents of roof and house collapse as torrential rains wreaked havoc across the NWFP during the past 24 hours.

In Mardan district, 10 people were killed and 12 others injured in different incidents.

In Narshak village, a room in the house of one Amir Khan

collapsed, killing his minor son Tahir Khan and 10-year-old daughter Husan Ara. Amir, his wife, son and a sister were injured.

At Baghdada, the roof of a saw-machine workshop collapsed, killing two watchmen, Jehanzeb and Amir Nawas Khan of Bakhshali.

At Khan Qala in the Shergarh village, Shamim and Ambarin, daughters of Imtiaz, were killed and their two sisters and an old woman of the family injured when the roof of their house caved in.

In a separate roof-collapse incident in the Shergarh area, Sareer and Zahoor died, and four other members of the family were injured.

At Haji Kuroona, Shahzeb died when the roof of his house collapsed.

A young girl died in a similar incident in the Gulibagh area.

APP adds: Two women were killed and nine others injured in two rain-related incidents in on Tuesday, political authorities said. The first incident occurred in Sultan Khel in Akakhel area when the roof of Nazir Jan's house caved in, killing mother of Soki Khan. The other woman could not be identified till the filing of this report.

In a separate incident, seven people, including women and children, were injured when the roof of a house caved in. Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in Bara, damaging about 116 muddy houses.
