Death warrants for two murder convicts

GUJRANWALA, Feb 12: District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain Minhas on Monday issued death warrants for two murder convicts Arif Baig of Aimanabad and Muhammad Irshad of Saddar Kamoki and fixed Feb 21 and March 1 for their execution, respectively.

Reports said Arif had killed Muhammad Shahbaz while Irshad shot dead industrialist Muhammad Younis over old enmity a few years ago. A sessions court had handed down death sentence to them. The LHC and the SC upheld the decision of the lower court. The president rejected their mercy appeals.

BAIL PLEA REJECTED: A local court on Monday rejected the bail application of former Wapda line superintendent Akhtar and his two accomplices Ramzan and Ehsan while the police arrested them.

Reports said the accused had attacked XEN Shabbir Toor of Gepco city division No 1 over a connection dispute about a week ago. They got an interim bail when the police registered a case against them. — Correspondent
