SWABI, Feb 12: A man was killed allegedly by his son in the Rashakai village here on Monday. Residents said that the alleged killer ran a dispute with his father over the engagement of his sister with a man of the same village. They said that as the deceased was going home, his son attacked him, killing him on the spot.

The wife of the deceased lodged an FIR against her son at the local police station. The accused escaped the area after the murder.

Teachers: The teaching community has demanded of the government to honour its pledges made to the teachers about promotions.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, Provincial President of Malgary Ustazan Islamuddin and other union leaders said federal and provincial governments had pledged that the teachers would get regular promotions but the promised promotions had not been carried out.

"Even the issue of higher qualification allowance for the teachers has remained pending since July 2006," he said. First, he said, the government had announced that the teachers would get the allowance, but then it linked the allowance with the performance of the teachers.
