Islamabad, N. Areas jolted

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: A five-magnitude earthquake on Sunday jolted Islamabad, Peshawar and Chitral, officials said.

The quake happened at 8.05pm, the local Met office chief said.

He said that the epicentre of the quake was located some 300km north of Islamabad in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

A mild 4.8 magnitude earthquake jolted the Northern Areas early on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the officials said.

Tremors were felt in Gilgit at 9:39am, a seismological department official said.

The earthquake's epicentre was located about 350km northeast of Islamabad, he said.—AFP
