PESHAWAR, Feb 10: An explosive device thrown inside the compound of a building housing offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) situated at the University Town, went off on Saturday morning, damaging four vehicles and injuring a security guard.

ICRC officials said that someone had thrown the device inside the compound, which damaged four vehicles parked there and a portion of the building.

A statement issued by the ICRC said: “The committee is in contact with all the relevant authorities and is awaiting the outcome of initial investigations into the blast. The organization is carefully assessing security conditions.”

Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Qazi Jamilur Rehman told Dawn that a security guard of the ICRC had suffered minor injuries. He said that four vehicles and a washroom had also been damaged.
