No play in Silver League final

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 10: Not a single ball could be bowled in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League final between Multan and Islamabad on Saturday here at the Gaddafi Stadium because of rain.

The rain, which started on Friday afternoon, is forecast for Sunday. And since there is remote chance of play on the fifth and final day, with the first two innings yet to be completed, the national domestic tournament committee, headed by Shafiq Ahmed, will decide the winners.

Multan had piled up 514-9 before declaring the first innings while Islamabad were struggling at 212-5 in reply.

According to the rules of the committee, in case of a draw, both the finalist teams will be declared as joint winners. But as the winning team of the final are to qualify for the next year’s Gold League, the committee has to find out any solution to declare any one team as winners.

"The committee will meet here on Sunday and hopefully it will take a final decision in case there is no further play," PCB Manager Cricket Operations Saqib Irfan told Dawn.

Summarised scores:

MULTAN 514-9 declared (Bilal Khilji 137, Kashif Naved 72, Abdur Rauf 57, Usman Tariq 56, Kamran Hussain 50); ISLAMABAD 212-5 (Rauf Akbar 53 not out).
