MUZAFFARGRAH, Feb 10: District Nazim Sardar Qayyum Khan Jatoi has said that the bureaucracy was not cooperating with him to prepare a budget for the district in a 10-day deadline given by the Lahore High Court, Multan bench.
The court had ordered the district and session court judge on Feb 6 to summon the session of the district assembly for the approval of budget.
Jatoi said that four days had already elapsed but no executive district officer had visited him to prepare the budget. Only the health EDO sent the district health officer to represent him, Jatoi said. He said the finance EDO had not bothered to attend his telephone calls.
He said that in July 2006 he had prepared the budget in six weeks, but this time he had just six days to prepare the Rs3.50 billion budget. He said that he would move court again against the deadline and for the restoration of the budget which the district assembly had approved on July 19, 2006.
When asked that that his rivals claimed that he would not be able to get the budget approved owing to his inability to complete quorum for the budget session, he said the budget session was unlikely as he would not be able to prepare the budget till the session. The district and sessions court judge has not announced the date for the session.
When the finance EDO was approached for comments, one of his officials said the EDO had gone to Lahore on an official tour and would see the matter on his return.
