DADU, Feb 10: Three main accused nominated in the Kainat Soomro kidnap and rape case surrendered to investigation police of Mehar on Saturday to record their statements.

The three, Ihsan alias Nomi Thebo, Roshan and Kaleemullah Thebo had obtained bail before arrest from the Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court before they appeared in the Mehar police station, said In-charge (investigation) Inspector Ghulam Sarwar Panhwar.

SP (investigation) Dadu Tipu Sultan said that Sindh chief minister had taken serious notice of the rape case and directed him to submit a report within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Asma Jahangir Saturday phoned the 13-year-old schoolgirl Ms Soomro and assured her that she would take up the case with concerned authorities to ensure she got justice. “I stand by you for justice,” she told the rape victim. Ms Soomro who along with her parents, sisters and activists of different political organisations continued token hunger strike outside the local press club on the ninth consecutive day appealed to politicians, social activists, lawyers, writers and intellectuals to support her.

She warned that she and her family would keep fast unto death if all the culprits were not arrested within two days.

Soorath Thebo, president of Pakistan Muslim League-N Sindh women’s wing, also talked to Ms Soomro at the huger camp and assured her of support. PML-N would stage a demonstration and a sit-in outside the Sindh Governor House to press for the arrest of rapists, she said.

A meeting of All-Pakistan Soomra Association presided over by its chief organiser Sabir Soomro passed a resolution calling for early arrest of the culprits and appealing to Senate Chairman Muhammedmian Soomro for help.

The association termed the arrest of three main accused an eyewash and said police would soon let them go. They had taken the action just to pacify the anger.

KILLED: A Ghulam Hussain Otho, 25, was allegedly killed by Rind tribesmen over a matrimonial dispute in the Karampur village of Sehwan taluka on Saturday.
