Transparent ballot boxes may be used in polls

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: The Election Commission has said transparent ballot boxes with plastic seals having special numbers of the EC logo may be used during the coming general election.

The EC at a meeting held here on Friday also said card board voting screens for marking ballot papers and tampering-free bags for supply and retrieval of election material, including ballot papers, might be used during the polls.

This was informed by Election Commission secretary Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad. Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Qazi Mohammad Farooq presided over the meeting, which was attended by EC members, Justice Nasim Sikandar, judge of the Lahore High Court, and Justice Ahmad Khan Lashari, judge of the Balochistan High Court.

The CEC hoped that the new arrangements would improve the electoral process and enhance the credibility of the commission for holding free, fair and transparent elections.

The secretary further said that for the benefit of those who had attained the age of 18 years on or before January 1, forms for enrolment as voters in the computerised electoral rolls would be made available from May.
