Death clutches at shepherd, herd

Published February 10, 2007

SAHIWAL, Feb 9: A speeding tractor-trolley crushed a shepherd and his nine goats to death, and injured his brother on Noorshah-Sahiwal Road on Friday.

Noorshah police said shepherds Tahir and Bahawal Sher were crossing the road when the accident took place. Tahir succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The condition of Bahawal Sher is stated to be critical. Noorshah police registered the case.

PROTEST: Islami Jamiat Tulaba activists on Friday protested against police for failing to arrest the conductor of a bus who killed one of their fellows.

On Feb 2, Akhtar Husain, a Second Year student, was pushed from the running bus by the conductor and was crushed under the rear wheels of the bus.

The students warned that if the driver and the conductor of the bus were not arrested, they would block the GT Road.

BOATS PURCHASED: The highway department purchased 40 boats worth millions of rupees for constructing a boat bridge at Qutub Shahana Pattan.

The bridge is constructed on the river Ravi during October each year. This year the bridge could not be built as the area had been shifted in the jurisdiction of Faisalabad and the authorities did not take any pain to provide the facility to the people.
