Inmates protest in Jacobabad jail

By Our Correspondent

JACOBABAD, Feb 9: Prisoners climbed the rooftops of the barracks of district jail building in protest against jail superintendent on Friday morning. They ended their protest after getting assurances that their problems would be solved.

The prisoners burnt their blankets as mark of protest while raising slogans against the Jail Superintendent Nasir Khan Pathan and refused to hold talks with him.

They alleged that the superintendent subjected them to humiliation and the jail administration was not providing them facilities according to jail manual.

After their refusal to climb down the DIG of jails sent jail superintendent of Sukkur Malik Altaf Hussain to bring the situation under control.

Mr Malik succeeded in persuading the prisoners to end their protest by assurances that they would be provided facilities under the jail manual and they would be respected as fellow human beings

The journalists who wanted to cover the incident were not allowed to enter the jail building, which had been heavily cordoned off by personnel of Rangers and district police.
