KARACHI: Citizens suffer as KESC rectifies system

KARACHI, Feb 9: Residents of various localities suffered intermittent and prolonged power suspensions on Friday due to what the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation claimed to be upgradation, replacement and system improvement work.

Besides, the KESC’s pre-planned shutdowns in some areas, complaints of power suspensions were received from other localities too.

A resident of Orangi town Sector 11-1/2 said electricity had been suspended twice on Friday morning between 9am and 11am.

Syed Farrukh Rizvi, resident of Clifton Block 4, said electricity in his locality was suspended at 5.35pm. He said most of the wires were naked and caused power suspension as a result of drizzle, but the officials were not paying heed to repeated complaints.

Complaining from Ittehad town, Dr Abdur Rehman said the unscheduled power failures had made peoples’ lives miserable and stressed the need that repair work should be expedited.

A resident of F.B Area Block 17 said power went off at 5pm and it had not been restored yet.

Suhail, a resident of North Nazimabad, said electricity supply had been suspended at 6.15 pm and not resumed till 8pm. “The KESC staff told me that power cannot be restored unless the rain stopps,” he added.

A complainant from Jamshed Town said power had been suspended at 5pm and could not be restored till 8pm. She said the KESC had failed to serve its consumers.

The reports of power suspensions were also received from Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Road, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Defence, Baldia, Korangi Industrial Area and North Karachi.

For the purpose of system improvement and upgradation work, the KESC has announced power shutdown schedule for Saturday.

According to the announcement, power supply may be suspended from 9am to 6pm in North Nazimabad blocks A, B, C, D, F, L, M, N, Malir Cantonment, F-South Pumping, M.T. Khan Road, Gurumandir, Cosmopoliton Society, Korangi Industrial Area, Korangi Creek,Gulishtan-i-Johar block 9, Bhitaiabad, Bahadurabad, Dehli Mercantile Society, Liaqatabad No 4, Federal Capital Area, Furniture Market, A-area Sindhi Hotel, Federal B Area blocks 2 and 15, Garden, Lawrence Plaza, Bilal Town and Holy Family.
