Oil prices mixed

LONDON, Feb 9: World oil prices travelled in opposite directions on Friday after breaching $60 in Asian trade, as icy winter weather continued to blast the US northeast and stoked demand for heating fuel, dealers said.

In London, the price of Brent North Sea crude for March delivery lost 31 cents to $58.72 per barrel in electronic deals.

New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in March, firmed three cents to $59.74 per barrel in floor trading.

New York crude hit a peak of $60.42 in Asian trade -- which was last seen at the end of 2006.—AFP
