No selector, doctor at trophy final!

Published February 9, 2007

LAHORE, Feb 8: Neither any selector nor doctor was available on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League final between Islamabad and Multan at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Thursday.

The final, one of the prime national cricket events, was not witnessed by any of the selectors, signalling their static interest in watching and spotting the upcoming talent.

While chief selector Wasim Bari is in South Africa presently to observe Pakistan’s ongoing ODI series for finalising the 15-man national squad for the World Cup, a member of the selection committee Ehteshamuddin recently returned home from the same country after watching the performance of Inzamam-ul-Haq and his men in the Test series. Iqbal Qasim, the committee’s third member, is recovering from a recent heart attack.

Meanwhile, no doctor was available for the first aid when Islamabad’s wicket-keeper Naeem Anjum fainted and left the ground after being hit on his forehead by a ball from off-spinner Afaq.

Though the PCB had named a trainer for each region, no doctor was appointed to give first aid to the players in case of any accident.

Naeem could not come back to the ground as Bilal Asad did the gloves work for Islamabad until Multan declared their first innings.
