Semester system demanded

JHANG, Feb 8: The students of the department of English language and literature of the Government College here have urged the Punjab University to introduce semester system in its affiliated colleges as is the case with various departments in the main university campus.

The demand was made in a letter to the vice-chancellor signed by all the students of the department.

The students said the annual system of examination was still prevalent in the affiliated colleges at the postgraduate level. The Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, or the Government College University, Lahore, have dispensed with this outdated examination system, which practically was a test of one’s memory rather than his knowledge of the subject.

STRIKE: The doctors and paramedical staff of the DHQ Hospital here observed a two-hour token strike on Thursday in protest against the refusal of police to register a case against the relatives of a patient, who on Monday injured an emergency ward servant.

A hospital source said the relatives of Imran thrashed a ward boy Bashir Ahmad and fractured fingers of his right hand. The duty doctor approached the police but no case was registered.
