Jeweller shot dead by robbers

LAHORE, Feb 8: Robbers shot dead a jeweller, injured two others and took away cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in 16 strikes here on Thursday.

Three robbers stormed into a jewellery shop in Dholanwal market in the Nawankot area and started looting ornaments. When owner Saeed and employee Azhar put up resistance, the intruders shot at them.

The injured were taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where Saeed of Kareem Park succumbed to his injuries.

Soon after the incident, the traders put their shutters down and blocked Multan Road for some two hours.

Robbers intercepted Nasir Ali in Raiwind area and snatched his car, Rs54,000 and a cell phone while Shobana Nadir was deprived of jewellery worth Rs50,000 and a cell phone in Factory area.

Meanwhile, a passerby Faisal was injured by robbers in Shahdara.

Four gun-toting men barged into the house of Muhammad Ali on Mujahid Road in Shahdara and took away cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Three robbers came to a nazim’s office in Misri Shah, held the people at gunpoint and made off with Rs50,000 in cash and four cell phones.

Three women entered a house in Nishat Colony in South Cantonment, held the female members at gunpoint and fled after looting cash, jewellery and a cell phone.

Cash and cell phones were taken away from Jauhar Town, Wahdat Colony Race Cource and Iqbal Town areas.

SUSPENDED: DIG (investigation) Azam Joyia on Wednesday suspended from service two police officials for showing poor performance.

Those suspended are Bhati Gate sub-inspector Muhammad Rafiq and Lower Mall sub-inspector Muhammad Inayat.

Applicants Rani Begum and Bashiran Bibi had informed the IG about their performance during his open court.
