PESHAWAR, Feb 7: NWFP Minister for Education Maualna Fazle Ali Haqqani has said that the present examination system needed drastic changes to make it more transparent.

Speaking at a meeting of chairmen of boards of intermediate and secondary education here on Wednesday, the minister directed the authorities concerned not to compromise on bringing transparency in the education system.

He called upon them to devise a strategy for deputing vigilance staff, preparation of question papers and marking to avoid exploitation of talented students.

The meeting decided that each board would be assigned one paper to be prepared by an experienced and expert of the relevant subject under the supervision of a coordinator.The meeting agreed to ensure uniform standard of question papers of educational boards so that no one’s right was usurped and every student could get marks according to ability.

The meeting discussed a foolproof mechanism to ensure secrecy of question papers to be supplied to controllers of examinations for annual and supplementary examinations.

It was also decided that marking of papers of one board would be done through another board in order to discourage favouritism.

The meeting approved strict measures to eradicate the trend of cheating.

It was decided that the vigilance staff of one board would be deputed for examination duty in the jurisdiction of another board.

Superintendents and deputy superintendents will be deputed according to the new procedure and gradually it will be applied to the whole staff of an examination centre, the meeting decided.—PPI
