KARACHI, Feb 7: Contrary to the claims of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) that there would be no power shutdown on Wednesday, electricity played hide-and-seek throughout the day across the city.
Consumers from Orangi Sector 11-1/2, Banaras (Site), complained that power supply remained suspended from 9am to 10.30am, when it returned for only 15 minutes and again remained out till 11.25am.
A shopkeeper from Clifton said that power supply had been suspended from 12noon till 1pm, adding that the unscheduled load-shedding was badly affecting their business, especially after the sunset.
He proposed that the timings of shutdowns be announced so that the shopkeepers could make alternative power arrangements.
Complaints of power suspension were also received from Burnes Road, Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Road, Qasba Colony, Defence, Metroville, Sultanabad and Federal B Area.
The complainants said that the KESC was carrying out load-shedding throughout the city without announcing it, and the ultimate sufferers were the consumers.
A complainant from Nazimabad said that frequent power suspensions were causing trouble to people, asking the KESC authorities to remove the faults quickly.
A complainant, Tufail, form Manankji Street said that power supply went out at 6pm and had not restored till 8.30pm. He said the relevant KESC staff was not responding to telephone calls.
Meanwhile, the KESC has announced a shutdown for Thursday from 9am to 5pm, as it claimed to be for the improvement work.
The areas where power supply may be interrupted are: Defence phase-V, Khayaban-e-Behria, Clifton Block-7, Punjab Colony, Dehli Colony, Liaquatabad No 1,4,8,9,10, Federal Capital Area, Al-Karam Square,C-1 Area, Ilyas Goth, Karimabad, Sharifabad No 1, North Karachi Sector 6-B,11-D,11-C/1,Surjani Town Sector 11/1, Khudadad Colony, Shahnawaz Bhutto Colony, Dawood College, Fine Food, Silver Ice, Korangi Industrial Area Sector 15,25 `D’, `G’ areas, Ghous Pak Road, Cattle Colony, Labour Flats, Baloch Town, Majeed Colony Landhi, Azeempura, Muhammadpura, Millat Town, Gulfishan society, Bilal town, Dawood goth, Mussarat colony and surrounding areas of Malir, Gulshan-e-Jami, Pahar Ganj,Umer Farooq Colony, Abuzar Ghaffari Masjid, Bahadurabad, Darul Aman Society, Dehli Mercantile Socieity, PECHS block-3, Gulishtan-e-Jauhar Block 1,Crystal View, Mateen Shopping Mall, Glamour mall,Grace shopping mall, Abidabad block “A”, “ B”, “C”, Qadri Moula, Orangi Town, Federal B Area Blocks 10 and 13, Lines Area.
