Call for accurate socio-economic data

PESHAWAR, Feb 6: NWFP Minister for Planning and Development Inayatullah on Tuesday asked planners to compile accurate data of socio-economic profile of the province to develop a broad vision and initiate better planning for development in future.

The minister was presiding over a briefing on development activities of the Special Development Unit (SDU) here on Tuesday. SDU

Director-General Ahmad Hanif Orakzai and managers of various area development projects briefed the minister about the ongoing development activities.

Directors of development projects in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber Agency, Kohistan, Kala Dhaka, Malakand, Barrani, Dir and Wari also informed the meeting about salient features of their respective projects.

The minister was informed that the Special Development Unit was planning, implementing, coordinating and monitoring developmental schemes for the socio-economic uplift of the province.

The meeting was informed that the Special Development Unit was adopting participatory and demand-driven approach for the development of various areas.

The minister said that steps were being taken for economic betterment and social uplift of the people in various parts of the province and tribal areas.

Mr Inayatullah stressed the need for making projects more beneficial for local people.

He also asked for relaxing conditions in order to ensure more participation of the people in development projects.

The minister underlined the need for giving priority to the construction of roads in various areas. “In fact roads play main role in the development of the area,” he added.—APP
