LAHORE, Feb 5: More than 150 enthusiasts were arrested for violating the ban on kite flying in different areas of the Punjab capital, police said on Monday.
A total of 133 cases were registered against the 156 men who were arrested with 670 kites and 275 twine rolls besides metal wire.
The Garden Town police nabbed three men with metal wire while 18 others were booked in as many cases by other police stations of the division.
The city division police arrested 18 in 14 cases, the Ravi division 20 in 17 cases, the Sadar division 26 in 23, the Iqbal Town 23 in 18, the Kot Lakhpat 13 in 10, the Mughalpura 14 in 13, the Cantonment 11 in 10 and the Civil Lines 10 in eight cases.
Three special monitoring squads have been constituted to ensure implementation of the ban on kite flying, a meeting, presided over by city police chief Anwar Virk, was told.
DIG (operations) Aftab Cheema informed the meeting that was headed by SPs of security, mobile squads and headquarters, the teams would supervise the measures being taken to ensure implementation of the ban and submit a report on a daily basis.
