PU election: objections filed against voters’ list
By Our Staff Reporter
LAHORE, Feb 5: As the process to elect members of the Punjab University senate, syndicate and academic council has begun, the administration has received six objections against preliminary voters’ lists.
In order to evaluate and remove the objections, the administration has constituted a three-member committee comprising Prof Dr Muhammad Jamshaid, Prof Dr Haris Rashid and Dr Mujahid Mansoori.
According to the university rules and regulations, only permanent faculty members can take part in the contest and use their right to franchise for 15 seats of senate, four of syndicate and seven of the academic council.
The varsity faculty members have raised objections on those members who have either gone on long leave or working on contract basis after retirement. The varsity will also refer a case to the committee to decide whether the members of board of governors of different schools, centres, Pakistan Study Centre and Institute of Education and Research can cast their votes or not.
According to the election schedule, the objections and other issues will be evaluated and disposed of by Feb 20.
The objections were filed up to Feb 1.
The university will receive nomination papers from Feb 26 to 28 and the list of candidates will be displayed on March 5. The candidates will be allowed to withdraw their candidatures by March 15.
The polling for the vacant posts will be held on March 22.
