KARACHI: Journalist’s recovery demanded

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 5: The Karachi Union of Journalists has demanded of the government to take effective measures to recover Sohail Qalander, resident editor of Daily Express, Peshawar who disappeared over a month ago.

A resolution passed at the KUJ’s general council session, said that the government had done nothing but lip-service vis-à-vis recovery of Mr Qalander who along with a friend had gone missing for more than a month.

“The growing incidence of mysterious disappearances of media persons and acts of violence against them for the last several years is negation of the tall claims made by the government,” the resolution said.

It warned that the journalist community would opt for a countrywide protest campaign if the missing journalist was not recovered forthwith.
