Musharraf to hold talks with Ahmadinejad

ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: President Pervez Musharraf will consult Iranian leaders about his recent initiative for the establishment of peace in Middle East.

President Musharraf is scheduled to visit Tehran on Monday for talks with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The visit of President to Iran is part of the high-level regular consultations on important issues faced by the Muslim Ummah, Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani told IRNA.

The visit of President to Iran is part of his move to take Muslim leaders into confidence on the host of issues, especially restoration of peace in the Middle East, Durrani said.

Pakistan and Iran had been engaged in consultations in the past on major international and regional matters, he said.

He recalled the General Musharraf's telephonic talk to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before his Middle East peace initiative last month and said Pakistan and Iran are friendly, neighbour and Muslim nations.

Durrani said that Gen Musharraf had launched a move to find a solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Palestine and Ummah.—APP
