RAWALPINDI, Feb 3: A retired army captain shot dead two serving majors in the city late Saturday evening in a dispute over vacating their house, police said.

Captain (retired) Ismail Pervaiz, the alleged killer, also fired at and injured the father of one of the deceased while fleeing the scene of the crime in Gulistan Colony.

Police identified the casualties as Major Faisal Mehmood, his father Mian Mehmood, and brother-in-law Major Kashif.

Military police cordoned off the house after the incident. Journalists were also barred from the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where the bodies of the two army officers were taken.

Police sources said Capt (retd) Pervaiz was being asked for three months to vacate the ground floor of House 22-B in Lane No. 7 of Gulistan Colony belonging to Mian Mehmood, an officer in the Ministry of Labour.

A truck loaded with his household was standing outside the house when he went to the first floor of the house to hand over keys and settle related matters with the owner’s son Major Faisal and his brother-in-law Major Kashif.

While the parties were engaged in clearing such matters as utility bills and examining fixture and fittings, Capt Pervaiz got provoked over some issue, pulled out his 30-bore pistol and shot both the army officers dead.

Capt Pervaiz had already moved his family to a house in Chaklala Scheme III.

District Police Officer Saud Aziz said three police teams had been formed to investigate the double murder.

Major Faisal Mehmood was posted in Malir, Karachi, and his brother-in-law Major Kashif at the Infantry School, Nowshera.

Robber killed: A robber was killed in an encounter with police while his accomplice was captured as they were fleeing after looting a Canteen Stores Department (CSD) of Chaklala Scheme III on Saturday night, police said.

Police have launched hunt for the two of the accomplices of the robber’s gang who disappeared during the encounter which sent a wave of panic and fear among the residents of the area.

Police said a gang of four robbers burst into CSD at night and escaped with the looted cash. Shortly after the culprits were fleeing, the employees of the store came out and started shouting for help.

The hue and cry caught the attention of the police party patrolling nearby. Prompt action by the police led to the shoot-out between the robbers and police which resulted in the killing of one of the culprits and arrest of the another one. District Police Officer Rawalpindi Saud Aziz said that one of the four robbers Rashid Butt was killed due to a prompt action by police.

While the police have started a hunt for the two of his accomplices Kashif and Ali who had escaped, while the fourth robber Saleem has been captured by the police.

According to the police the robber killed in the encounter belonged to Wah Cantt.
