PESHAWAR Feb 3: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government has failed in maintaining law and order situation in the Frontier province due to which people have now started feeling insecure and apprehensive, said the Federal Minister for Political Affairs, Engr Amir Muqam.

Lack of planning and faulty arrangements, said Amir Muqam who is also provincial chief of the PML, are cause of concern in the prevailing insecure environment.

While addressing a press conference in Nowshera on Saturday he said, the policy of victimising senior officials in district bureaucracy, frequent transfers of high-ranking police officers and unnecessary interference in the working of government departments have almost crippled the official machinery resulting in erosion of the government writ in the whole province.

To a query, Amir Muqam refuted the impression that the party cadres gave instructions to protest against the recent attempt made on his life at a public gathering in Peshawar.

He also rejected the possibility of striking a deal with political parties and said that the PML will win in the next general elections on the basis of its performance.

Completion of terms by the assemblies is a proof of stability and democracy he said adding, the government institutions are smoothly functioning within the parameters enshrined in the constitution. To another question he said, Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan as it considers stability vital for the region.

Specifying achievements on economic front, the minister said 171 mega projects are in advanced phase of completion in the NWFP. He said unemployment too, has shown a declining trend and development projects in Nowshera are being implemented to provide gas, electricity and clean drinking water.

On this occasion Fazl-e-Rabbi and Addalat Khan, chairman and vice chairman of the Ittehad Group, announced their support to the PML.

Gas supply: Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam will inaugurate gas supply schemes at various places in the Swat district on Feb 4.

Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao will address delegations at the Sherpao Hujra in Charsadda on Sunday, said a press release issued here on Saturday.
