Adil records surprise win in Canada


KARACHI, Feb 2: Pakistan's Khawaja Adil Maqbool registered a stunning victory in the first round of Manitoba Open squash championship by defeating Australia's No7 seed Steve Finitsis in Winnipeg, Canada on Friday.

According to details of the PSA event, the Dubai-based Pakistani qualifier beat the high-ranked Australian 7-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-10 (4-2), 11-10 (2-0) in 68 minutes to reach his first Tour quarter-final.

Adil, 18, will face fourth seed Canadian Matthew Giuffre in the quarter-final. Giuffre outshone compatriot Andrew McDougall 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 in just 29 minutes.
