RAWALPINDI, Feb 2: One person was shot and injured by robbers while another was deprived of his mobile phone in Waris Khan police area late Thursday night, police said.

Chaudhry Imran, a resident of Waris Khan, resided in the upper storey of a house he shared with his brother Dr Shamsul Haq. At around 10:30pm, three armed men entered their house and held Dr Shams and his family, who lived on the ground floor, at gunpoint.

On seeing the robbers dragging the doctor and his children, the wife of Chaudhry Imran started screaming.

This created panic among the robbers who left the doctor and his children and ran upstairs where Ms Roohi and her husband Chaudhry Imran were present.

When the robbers went upstairs, Dr Shams rushed out of the house and locked the door from outside. Screams of the children caught the attention of the residents who called the police and gathered outside the house.

In the meantime, the robbers who had gone upstairs shot and injured Chaudhry Imran. On hearing the gun shot, the police, accompanied by the public, opened the door and rushed upstairs, but they failed to find the robbers.

“They might have escaped after mixing with the people who had gathered outside,” a police officer said.

The injured Chaudhry Imran was taken to DHQ hospital where he is said to be in critical condition. It is yet to be investigated whether the robbers took away any valuable or cash with them.

In another incident, three armed robbers intercepted a bystander, Sharjeel Akbar Rana, in Dhoke Elahi Buksh (Waris Khan area) at around midnight and snatched his mobile phone at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, five vehicles were stolen by thieves from different parts of Rawalpindi on Thursday, police said.

Qasir Azam told Cantonment police that his car (RIX-8883) was stolen from Saddar, Rizwan Ahmed’s car (JEB-7245) was taken away by thieves from Sadiqabad, while Yasir Mehmood’s car (LXO- 5247) was stolen from Wah Cantonment.

Shabir Ahmed’s motorbike (RL-1029) was stolen from Waris Khan while Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar’s motorcycle was stolen from Sadiqabad.

Highway robbery: Highwaymen deprived several passengers of cash and cellphones after blocking the Kotli Sattian road, while a pedestrian was robbed of Rs22,000 in Westridge on Thursday, police said.

Chaudhry Munir, a van driver, told the Kotli Sattian police that he was driving to Bagh from Rawalpindi when he found the road blocked with stones and a truck parked ahead of his vehicle.

As he stopped his van four masked men carrying arms surrounded the vehicle and forced the passengers to give up their cellphones and the cash. The robbers snatched Rs148,150 and seven mobile phones and disappeared in the dark.

In the second incident, Mazhar Iqbal was robbed of Rs22,000 in cash by a gang of four robbers who offered him a lift in the Westridge area.
