MULTAN, Feb 1: District nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar has constituted a committee to probe millions of rupees pension scam.

Reports said about 3,500 retired staff of municipal administration had submitted their pension claims and payment was started, but the revenue department also began scrutiny process and asked all pensioners for verification. Only 1,500 pensioners were declared deserving while 200 turned out `ghosts.’

The monthly payment of pension decreased to Rs2.2 million from Rs5 million after the scrutiny process.

It may be mentioned here that after the establishment of City District Government Multan, the responsibility of payment of pension to retired staff of the defunct municipal administration had been transferred to CDG-M from town committees.
