MS says none was electrocuted: Shikarpur train accident

By Our Correspondent

SHIKARPUR, Jan 31: The medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital told an inquiry committee on Wednesday that none of the victims of last week’s train accident had been electrocuted, quashing earlier reports the deaths in the accident were caused by high tension live electric wires dangling over the train.

Medical Superintendent Dr Zulfiqar Ali Abro recorded his statement before the inquiry committee, which had been formed by federal railways minister to probe into the accident. The committee also recorded statements of the injured, DCO, DPO and Hesco officials.

Dr Abro told the committee, which comprised Deputy COPS (Safety) Jam Basheer Ahmed, Deputy Chief Electric Engineer Arif Ali and Farrukh Taimoor Ghilzai, deputy chief engineer south of Pakistan Railways, that eight people were killed and 34 injured in the accident.

Three of the injured, Ameer Bux Brohi, Ashiq Ali Brohi and Mour Ali Shaikh, were still under treatment at the civil hospital, one had been referred to Hyderabad, while the rest had been discharged, he said.

The committee members told this correspondent that they would complete the enquiry within a week.

After recording statements of the MS and others they left for a Larkana hospital to record the statements of the injured who had been admitted there.

Pakistan Railways Sukkur division commercial inspector Abdullah Abro also visited the civil hospital and verified admission forms of the injured people.

KILLED: Two brothers were allegedly gunned down by ten armed Marfani men when they were working in the fields near their village in the jurisdiction of Karan police on Wednesday.

The killings were reported to be an offshoot of a running dispute between Marfanis and Brohis. Karan police have registered the case.

SUICIDE: A 14-year-old student of a madressah committed suicide by hanging himself from the roof of a bathroom at Hussainia Jilani Madressah in Babar Mohalla of Garhi Yasin on Tuesday.
