SHIKARPUR, Jan 29: Inquiry committees constituted by railways department and Sindh government have started investigation into Sunday’s accident. Police have also registered a report of the incident and begun investigation.
Sindh Health Minister Sardar Ahmed, elected representatives and district, police, health, railway and Wapda officials visited the Shikarpur Civil Hospital on Monday and enquired about the health of those injured in the incident.
The district nazim and several religious and political parties as well as social welfare organisations demanded that special trains and additional bogies should be arranged on Ashura and other religious occasions to facilitate people.
The federal government has announced a compensation of Rs100,000 for the families of each of the deceased and Rs50,000 for the injured.
Two critical injured passengers — Jawed Bheel and Hubdar Shah — succumbed to their injuries in Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana. Nine others were still in the hospital.
During his visit to the CMCH, the provincial health minister said 28 people were getting treatment in Shikarpur and Larkana hospitals. The said the chief minister would announce compensation for the affected people within three days after consulting the railway ministry.
HESCO: The Hyderabad Electricity Supply Company, Larkana circle, operations manager said in a statement that the 11kV line crossing the railway tracks where the incident took place was not carrying power.
He said eight spans of conductor of the line had been stolen more than eight months ago and the section had remained de-energised since then.
He said some of the people traveling on the roof of the train were carrying flags that had entangled with the wires. He said the casualties had not been caused by electrocution and none of the injured had burn injuries.
