Two die in Balochistan firing

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Jan 27: Two people were killed and two others injured when armed men fired on a jeep near the Babar Kach area, some 200km north-east of here, on Saturday. Faqir Hayat Khan was going to Babar Kach from the Tandorin area with his three followers in the jeep. When they reached the Bandra village, some people opened fire on the jeep from a hilltop.

Hayat Khan and Zangal Khan Marri died on the spot and Samar Gul and his wife were injured.

Security forces took the bodies and the injured to a hospital in Sibi.

Sources said Faqir Hayat Khan was a Pir of Marri tribesmen and usually visited the Marri area to see his followers.

EXPLOSIVES FOUND: Security forces found a huge quantity of explosives at Loti, Sui tehsil, during a campaign to defuse landmines. Official sources said the explosives had been dumped in the area for subversive activities.

ROCKETS FIRED: Sources checkposts of the Frontier Corps in Kohlu and Mashky had come under rocket attacks.

They said militants fired four rockets on an FC checkpost in the Jawni area, Kohlu district, but the rockets landed at an open place. Militants also fired three rockets on a checkpost in the Mashky area, Awaran district.

The sources said security personnel deployed in the Paneer area on Friday evening foiled an attempt to blow up the main railway track linking Quetta with the rest of the country. They said miscreants had planted a powerful explosive device under the track.

They said the FC also found 3,150 anti-aircraft shells in the Chagai area.
