Ghanian dies in jail

KHAIRPUR, Jan 27: A foreign prisoner who was serving a three year term in a narcotics case died of cardiac arrest in the central jail of Khairpur on Friday night, jail officials said on Saturday.

Fifty-year-old Mehmood Arna, son of Ahmed, belonged to Ghana. He was shifted from central jail Karachi on July 23, 2006 to the central jail of Khairpur, they said. His body was brought to civil hospital for post-mortem which was conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate.

Jail officials said that IG jails had been informed of the prisoner’s death and a decision about his funeral would be taken as per his directives.—Correspondent
