KARACHI, Jan 27: The Sindh Minister for Labour, Industries and Transport, Adil Siddiqi, on Saturday announced that Quaid Medical and Dental College (QMDC) would soon be established in Karachi to provide medical education to workers’ children.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Health Festival and Trade Mela, organised as part of Health Update event activities at Karachi Expo Centre. The event has been organised by the city government, SESSI and other institutions.

The minister said that SESSI would run the college and the prime minister had already approved the college and PC-1 was also being prepared. “Initially, there will be 50 seats in the college,” he added.

The minister said that 50-bed kidney centre had been established in Landhi and within three months President Musharraf would inaugurate the centre.

He said that due to concerted efforts of the government, a new era of development had begun in the province and foreign investment had boomed in the recent years. The minister said that such events would greatly help in creating awareness about diseases among the masses.

Appreciating the event, the minister said that such activities promoted foreign investment in the city and province. Health experts from UK, USA, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and other countries are participating in this event and delivering their lectures on various topics. It is the first time that seminars and symposia are being held on dentistry and nursing along with medicine. The event will conclude on Sunday.

On the occasion, shields were presented to the minister and other dignitaries.—PPI
