KARACHI: ‘Principal, students manhandled at DCET’

KARACHI, Jan 27: More than 50 outsiders including some armed persons on Saturday attacked the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) in the presence of police and rangers, manhandled college principal and subjected some students to violence, claimed Islami Jamiat Talaba.

According to an IJT press release issued here, over 50 attackers damaged the college building by smashing window panes and other valuables of the institution.

They remained inside the DCET premises for quite some, it said adding that when college principal asked rangers personnel to take action against those attackers; they ignored the orders and acted like silent spectators.

Reacting on the situation, college students gathered near Shahrah-i-Quaideen and blocked the road by burning tyres in protest.

Police rushed to the troubled spot and fired teargas shells to disperse protesting students and arrested few of them, who were later released.

A delegation of college students called on the DCET protocol officer, Mushtaq Shaikh, and DSR Rangers Captain Naseem and urged them to take steps for maintaining law and order situation at the college.-—PPI
