KARACHI: NWFP delegation briefed on projects


KARACHI, Jan 27: Karachi is being developed on a rapid pace with completion of mega projects in a short span of time. This was stated by Tameer-i-Karachi Programme Director Rauf Akhter Farooqi while briefing the visiting delegation of union council nazims of North West Frontier Province on Saturday. EDO (Master Plan) Iftikhar Qaimkhani was also present.

Rauf Farooqi said around 90 per cent work on mega projects worth Rs29 billion had been completed and Karachi would soon become a beautiful and modern city of the world.

He said it was his interest and efforts in the development of Karachi that City Nazim Mustafa was the only mayor in the country who had been invited to address the World Economic Forum.

Talking about various development projects, Rauf Akhter said with the completion of signal-free corridor from Sharea Faisal to Site Industrial Area the one-hour journey would be reduced to 15 minutes. He said a comprehensive master plan of the city was being prepared for the first time which would incorporate all necessary information till the year 2020 and it would be presented before the City Council very soon for approval.

The delegation appreciated the hospitality of city district government of Karachi and lauded the development work.

Meanwhile, a 15-member group of students from Kennedy Schools of Government, Harvard University, the USA, visited Jehangir Kothari Parade, Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim and Clifton Park. The city government officials briefed them about the beach development plan and other projects.

The students were informed that the restoration/renovation of old Jehangir Kothari Parade, development of Clifton Beach Park and Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim was developed in a short span of one-year.

The students were very much impressed on the state-of-the-art renovation of the old Jehangir Kothari Parade and designing and development of Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim spread over an area of 130 acres. They said the project would attract tourists from abroad.—PPI
